The mission team has arrived safely in Haiti.  Evelyn said that she and Nora are trying to keep cool, while the mission team is trying to warm up, having left behind zero degrees wind chill in central PA.

Greetings from Haiti,  We arrived safely in Port-au-prince . Everyone is doing fine. Greg Benson, Jeff Graham, Evelyn and Nora met us at the airport.

Upon arriving at the guest house we enjoyed a light lunch. We spent the rest of the day making plans for the coming week. We ask for your prayers as we face challenges and step out of our  comfort zones. The medical team especially asks for prayer as they go out among the people.

THE MISSION TEAM

Wednesday, March 07, 2007,  9:39pm
The construction team worked at the Vine Evangelical Baptist Church. We sifted a lot of sand to be mixed in with concrete. The concrete was to be for a base for ceramic tile we were installing in a children's Sunday School room. Some of the team was preparing expanded metal grating to be installed at the windows to prevent theft.

The medical team had a very good day. First we went to the school to examine the children and start a medical health record. We took height, weight, blood pressures, examined them for rashes and other problems. The children were very polite and glad to see us. We still have a lot of children to see. In the afternoon we went to visit and pray with people in the village. It is really hard to put in words but I am sure God knows.

From the Work Team

Today at the church we worked on laying a tile floor. Also we mixed and poured a lot of cement for a walkway that goes behind the church. At lunch we talked and shared some stories. After lunch we mixed and laid some more cement. When we got back where we are staying I saw that some kids were on the street playing soccer so I went out and played with them. Even though I can't understand them , I still have a lot of fun. I hope to make friends with some of the kids before we leave.

Bon Jour from the Medical Team

We are limited in medical supplies and a lot of knowledge with nursing Haiti children but ready to be used and served with God's help and our love.

We are doing physicals on 200 plus school children about 14 miles from Port-au-Prince. It takes us an hour to get there with traffic and rocky roads - four wheel drive.

We do height - weight - head measurements- eyes - dental - respiratory - cardiac- skin for rashes. Some referrals to the clinic.  Ages 3 to 12 years.

Afternoons door to door visits with Pastor Bonita - praying with them for needs and salvation . Keep us in your prayers.

News from the Medical Team.

We had the opportunity to visit the medical clinic staffed by Haitian doctors and nurses. We will share more details about that when we return home. Our morning physicals was shortened because of our visit to the clinic and the students had early dismisal on Friday! We still saw about 37 students.

Once again our afternoon walking through the villages, meeting the beautiful Haitian families and praying together with them, is one the highlights of our day. We have so much to learn from the Haitian people. When we ask for their specific prayer requests, their requests are for a closer walk with God and for health. Would this be the top of our daily prayer request.?

Continue to pray with us as we share the story of Jesus with the Haitian people.

The Work Team at Vine Church

John and I had devotions last night on Ephesians 6: 10 thru 20.  We prayed special prayers for the medical team.! Please pray for wisdom as they help various needs.

Friday was hot on the construction site. Don , Jack and I cut out expanded metal sheets for over the windows and we decided to screw them on instead of welding. Garry kept feeding the tile foreman mud , etc and , Yes, that children's classroom is done for Sunday worship. Brandon, Larry, Paul and John pulled sand up to the second floor. Later Paul, Jack and Don helped chizel out block for electric conduit.

Greg from C.S.I. bought us some banana chips "em good". Lots to tell later. Thank God for answered prayer. And keep it up. John and I say love and hugs for everyone (and maybe even my skid loader).

Love, Tom

Sunday, March 11, 2007,  10:49pm
We have spent our weekend touring the Haiti countryside. Yesterday we were in the mountains and a fort. Today we went to the country and visited the orphanage, the clinic and two schools. This morning we worshipped with the Haitians at the Vine Ministry Church. Jack's message on "Who's in Charge?" was well received.

Our group has really started to mesh. Today the constructioon team saw where the medical team has been working and the medical team saw the work the construction team has done. Our time of devotions has become a great time of fellowship. We have many stories to tell when we get home.

Please continue to pray that we will remain healthy and be able to finish the tasks we have to do.

Monday, March 12, 2007, 11:02pm
The construction team made about 20 wheelbarrows full of concrete to put in the walk way on the side of the church. We also worked on the second floor chiseling out for the electric wires. Tomorrow we will be sifting stone then bucketing the sand up to the second floor. Also continue to do chiseling.

We've all been working very hard and are looking forward to seeing our loved ones. The time down here has really opened my eyes to how well we have it in the U.S. Continue to pray for us and the Haitians.

P.S. A lot of good stories have been told on the rooftop.

Lena, I'll see you on Wednesday.  Love, John

Greetings one more time from the medical team.

After an interesting weekend we returned to our work at the school in Gallette. We were fortunate our work there having done 244 exams total over 4 mornings. We returned to visit a few of the village residents whom we prayed with last week, We were blessed to learn that several of them are feeling much better. Praise God, the Great Physician ,for His healing power!

Another blessing today was hearing one report from a visiting dental team (who began their work here today) that many of the children we had seen at the school and encouraged to be seen by the dentist had made the 6 mile walk and were being seen by the dental team today!

After returning to C.S.I. house this evening, we enjoyed a Haitian meal including rice and beans with goat (the goat actually tasted like roast beef) One more day of work. Then back to the U.S. looking forward to sharing more with all of you when we return.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007,  11:46pm
Today was a beautiful day in Haiti. There was a clear blue sky with white wispy clouds floating overhead. There was a delightful cool breeze blowing as we sat and relaxed on the veranda overlooking the sea. Life couldn't be better! I am sure this must have been true for someone somewhere but not where we are.

For us it was a warm start for the day. After a delicious breakfast of French toast, we took our journey to the church work site. It is always a journey - cars and trucks going every direction with horns blowing. We made it safe to our destination - we had an excellent driver.

Every day was an experience of hard work - really hard for those of us who are not used to it. Two of us spent the morning and early afternoon with hammerdrill and sledge hammer creating a new doorway through a solid wall of blocks and mortar. Some on the team spent the morning securing protective grills on the windows.

Throughout the day there was a constant process of sifting sand and hauling it up to the second floor with ropes and buckets. We needed to be constantly rotating on the job to prevent anyone becoming too exhausted.

Yes, it is hard work. But at the end of the day there is great satisfaction in knowing we have been able to help this congregation come  a little closer to the completion of what promises to be a beautiful place of worship. Right now the building looks a little rough, but in my minds eye I envision a place that will honor to the God we love and serve together.

At the end of the workday we bid an orevoua (goodbye) to the Haitian workers, most of whom we could not communicate with in spoken language but surely had good relations through it all.

Tomorrow we leave early in the morning to return home. We are anxious for that but we also take many fond memories with us as well.

We look forward to seeing you at home - in about 25 hours and 44 minutes - not that we are really counting.

Greetings from the medical team!

Can't believe it's our last day but we have definitely felt your prayers;  Praise the Lord for what we have been able to accomplish. We did 106 phyxicals at the Salvation Army school today in the morning, and could refer some children to the dental team that came from Indiana. Please keep them in your prayers.

In the afternoon, we used our muscles at Faith Academy School. Come to church to hear more!

Pray for safety as we come home tomorrow. We have lots to share; are so thankful for our Midway Church. Can't wait to see everyone; look forward to lots of hugs; and kisses!

Love;  Blessings!

Continue to keep C.S.I. and the Vine Ministry in your prayers.  Praise the Lord for their work here in Haiti! Also pray for Nora as she travels home March 23. Pray for Evelyn for safety in Haiti; that she will soon be able to have her inverter repaired (it's now going on 4 weeks that she has practically no electricity); that her license plate will soon be available (That's also been 3 weeks) and for the transition of moving from the house into an apartment at her friends.
